Hey people. (Please do not take my current music as an affront! the song is bouncy as hell!)
I'm feeling the urge to write some BSG fanfiction. Can you prompt me? Give me:
- a character (or characters)
- a setting (canon, pre-canon, post-canon, whatever)
- a theme. It can be as little as one word or an idea you'd like to see me run with.
For example: Laura/Bill, the day after the groundbreaking ceremony, "what to do about those munchies."
Guh, I shouldn't give examples (I'm looking at you,
batyatoon, but actually I really like how that Jake the Dog story turned out!). Please, help a girl out and I'll do my best to write something just up your alley.

Dear Writers Out There,
Can anyone recommend a good online writing workshop? I'm looking for a place to hone my skills and help tear down my reluctance to do anything with the stuff I have written. Original work, not fanfiction (y'all are probably sick of my fanfic by now).
I don't want one of those sites where it's all strength-by-negative-feedback, I don't think I could take that kind of thing right now. Any suggestions?

In brighter, lighter news, I spent a good part of the day today outside weeding and planting. I got a bunch of new flowers into containers, and will give the upside-down tomato & strawberry containers a go in a day or two, as soon as I figure out where to hang them for maximum sunlight & ease of watering. I was pleased to discover that my beautiful dahlia & begonia from last year are making valiant comebacks. I found some other bulbs -- I think they were some other kind of begonia, I'm not sure -- that looked like they were trying to sprout, so I put them in the ground in a nice warm spot. We'll see what happens.
I couldn't find my calla lily that I'd brought into our garage for overwintering, or its container. Something tells me they've both been moved to the "she'll never need this or use this again" black hole of disappearing things of mine. So it goes.
Also, finally having had my arm twisted by my beloved brother-in-law, I made a LinkedIn account. Seems silly to me, but yeah. I went the massage therapy route, although I could've gone the freelance writer/editor route just as easily. I spend more time on the latter these days than the former.
Randomly and unrelated, I miss my icons over here. A lot.
Who watched Game of Thrones last night? Was anyone else as surprised by what they did with Dany as I was? I kept thinking to myself, that wasn't in the book... it wasn't, was it? No, it wasn't. Adaptation and all, I get it. But.

You know how they say blondes have more fun? I swear to gods (quiet, I do catch myself saying that now), I've made some of the worst decisions of my life when my hair's been blonde. As of yesterday, I'm thankful that I'm back to mostly brown hair.
I now return you to your regularly scheduled program. Oh, and if anyone wants to leave me a BSG prompt, I'll do my best to write you something. I haven't been feeling very creative lately and could definitely use a shove in the right direction.
I did nominate some stuff for Not Prime Time over at the AO3. Nominations close tomorrow if you're interested. You have to be registered with Archive of our Own to play.

Hello, since LJ was down and cross-posting looks like it failed... if this shows up twice, I'll get rid of one of them:
Over at tumblr,
worldbuilders asked for a fanfic in her ASK box. I asked what kind and she said something Kurt, something family. I can do that.
Title: Fathers and Sons
Canon: X-Men (old-school, as always)
Characters: Kurt Wagner (Nightcrawler)
Rating: G
Word Count: 397 (way too long for tumblr's ASK feature).

Happy National Physics Day. To celebrate (ha), I'm listening to The Physics of Superheroes. It's pretty fantastic. (And it just ended, it was a lot of fun, so if you've got 47 minutes to spare, I highly recommend it.)
Yesterday was 80 degrees and perfectly sunny. Today is 55 and overcast. Welcome to Oregon.
I've been watching that AO3 meme going around, you know, the one where you post links to your ten stories with the most hits. I figure this is a skewed meme, because most of the stories I've had there for longest make my top ten. ( But I'll break it down a different way. )
I've been markedly quiet lately. I don't want to be one of those people who shows up here only once in a blue moon, barfs out all the stuff, and expects everyone to drop what they're doing and comment to it. I've had a lot on my mind, and my way of dealing with that is to do a frakton of internal processing until I get it all figured out. And then probably never talk about it, because by then I'm bored with it. So it goes! Regardless, today's a haircut day which is always a good thing.
Until then, I'm going to try to write something for Nightcrawler. Just a little change of pace. (By the way, Marvel wiki, there is no such word as "teleportating." Just saying.)

My laptop appears to be on its last legs. Got any recommendations for a new one? What do you like or hate about yours? Which laptop do you wish you'd bought? For the record, I'm equal opportunity between Windows systems and Apples.
I use mine mostly for writing, but I do a fair amount of graphics work on it too, and do use it to watch DVDs.
(In other unrelated news, I finished A Clash of Kings and am about to start reading A Storm of Swords. But first, I have to finish rereading Howl's Moving Castle. I promised some folks I would!)

Hi everyone. I'm at the tail end of my week away, visiting with the fabulous
lostinapapercup for the weekend. I actually got in this afternoon, but getting here took its time. Not that I'm complaining! I've been so lucky, all my traveling has gone like clockwork and it's been a beautiful piece of cake. I probably shouldn't have said anything, because now my trip home on Sunday will undoubtedly be cursed.
There, warded off that jinx.
How's everybody? I haven't been online very much, so I haven't been keeping up on DW/LJ. I can tell you that while I love the east coast -- I grew up in New England -- and while I love NYC -- I was born there -- I don't really miss it. The pace is different, the mood is different, the people are different. I've been having a blast, moving around a lot. I flew into Newark, took a bus to Grand Central Station, then took a train to Connecticut. From there, I took a train back to Grand Central, cabbed it over to Brooklyn (HELLO BOROUGH I LOVE YOU), took a car from there to LaGuardia, and flew to DC and from the airport there, took the super-shuttle here.
I HAVE BEEN ON THE MOVE.
And not doing much online at all. But I'm thinking of all of you! ♥

The flip side of active roleplaying, of course, is that when I'm not doing it it's like I've forgotten what to do with myself. I'm caught up on LJ (I'm reading, even if I'm not commenting, I promise) and thinking in a moderately overwhelmed way about all the things I'm supposed to be doing. I should get my ass out there in the rain, deposit a couple checks, stop by work and do a few things.
Next week I'm traveling. It's a trip I've been planning for a long time, back to see my family on the other side of the country. I don't mind saying it in public because it's not like I'm leaving my home [insert address here] unattended for burglars. Nope, this is a solo trip, just me and a combinations of airplanes, buses, trains, and cars, and I'm really looking forward to it. I never mind traveling alone. It's actually a little freeing. I just need to pack.
I know a lot of people who are afraid to travel by themselves. Hell, I know a lot of people who are afraid to drive to downtown Portland by themselves, and that always amazes me. This is an easy part of the country. Portland is an easy city. I don't know if any of you saw Fred Armisen on Bill Maher last week talking about spending the summers here filming Portlandia. but he was pretty right on about it (I paraphrase): you go to other parts of the country after spending time here and you realize how the northwest lulls you into a false sense of everything being absolutely okay. Then you go into the rest of the world and realize you've stepped out of your cocoon.
This is actually not just a subliminal advertisement trying to get you all to move here, I promise. I just like it. I like the west coast in general. And my Boston sports teams. Somewhere, in some alternate universe, I am the perfect Zen catalyst for what's best about both the east and west coasts.
And... I keep meaning to write about tumblr, but my mind keeps blocking me from doing so. I guess there's probably a good reason for it, one I ought to pay attention to. Instead, I'm going to venture out into the pouring rain and take my kid to the science museum. Why not. I'll see you all later on. And just to make this nice and circular, see you in RP-land tonight with Sam.

OK, so this is the third or fourth day I've been feeling so under the weather that I wonder if I'm disconnected from everything and everyone. I don't like it, don't like it at all.
This update brought to you by the letter S for "STFU" and "stop whining." I tell myself that all day long.
In the meantime, I've been having fun at
milliways_bar. I feel like such an old-timer there sometimes. Well, all the time, because I am. It's been seven and a half years, and that is a long time, and I've seen a lot of stuff come and go, and I've faded in & out of activity there, but I'm enjoying it again. That's due in part to a lot of you guys. YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE and I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST NIGHT.
Now that I've sat on this for a couple hours (told you I was feeling under the weather), I'll just let it go as is. I make no guarantees it makes sense. I was going to talk about my hate/hate relationship with tumblr, but I'll save that for another time.

Sorry, been busy RPing. I feel a little bit like sharks are eating my brain, but it's also entirely delightful. I realize this makes no sense. Unless you're a fellow RPer, then it probably makes all the sense in the world.
Here's the good news. Guys, guys, I finally have a character again I want to play every single day. I haven't felt like that at this game since... well, probably since Spike. it's one of those hot sizzling damn! moments and it makes me stupidly happy.
Just saying.

I realize it's been a while since I updated. And here I was, trying to keep the fine art of journaling current and happy. BUT NO PRESSURE, right?
Better to update when I actually have something to say. I stepped back into
milliways_bar after a long long absence with a new character. I have one more new guy to put in over there, probably tonight or tomorrow. I forgot how fast-paced that game can be, but so far, so good. Also, I realize how incredibly spoiled I've been, playing with some of the best RPers out there for a very long time. I love you guys. I'm also trying out a couple of new ones, just for grins. Having spent the last year RPing just one character, primarily, has been an experience like no other, I've loved every minute of it. I'll continue to love it. It's a blast of a way to have some creative expression.
Although... I have written like... zero new stuff. But today, while I was driving, I got Ideas so I'm sure more original fiction will be barfing from my brain and fingers onto the computer eventually. In the meantime I've been taking photos, I think I'm getting better at it! I looked at a bunch of pictures from last spring, and I'm pretty confident the new ones kick their butts. Luckily it's not a showdown. I just know what I'm doing a little bit more now. Practice really does help.
What else?
h311ybean, thank you for the card! It's beautiful, speaking of people who are so creative!
And it's been a while since I saw this meme make the rounds, so I'll jump on it. In terms of personality, which fictional character do you think I most resemble? And I add to it: Why?
♥ to all of you.
